Irreducible Representations of Normal Coordinates

Analysis of normal coordinates is a little simpler than that of molecular orbitals in that every atom contributes precisely three components to each normal coordinate, an x, y, and z component. These transform in the same way as the px, py, and pz atomic orbitals.

Because normal coordinates are states, the first letter of the irreducible representation is capitalized.
