Reaction of Cs+ and F- in a Vacuum   (Home)

Back to Animations.

===>   The reaction of a cesium atom with a fluorine atom illustrates the effect of the very different masses of the atoms.  At all times, the fluorine atom/ion does most of the work, moving rapidly around the massive cesium.  A step-size of 1 femtosecond is used, and this display runs at 50 frames per second, so each second of the simulation represents 5x10-14 seconds of real time.
